The people of Puerto Rico found a community in Florida and are now set to be a driving force in local and national politics for the upcoming midterm elections of 2018 and to come.
The stakes are higher than ever before as this midterm election will determine whether crucial issues are addressed in the Puerto Rican community, in the territory, and on the mainland. Puerto Ricans in Florida are in a position to support those who championed emergency funding legislation in Congress to help the island recover and that continue to fight for equal treatment in federal programs. Congress will make decisions that help the Puerto Rican community if we flex our political muscle and join forces with the greater Latino vote. There are more than 1 million Puerto Ricans living in Florida and by 2020, Puerto Ricans are projected to surpass Cubans as the largest Hispanic group in the state.
